Recurring House Cleaning: Weekly, Biweekly or Monthly

Recurring house cleaning puts your home on a set schedule (weekly, every two weeks or monthly) so it never slides back to the point where a whole Saturday disappears into scrubbing. We set up recurring plans for homes across Albany, Schenectady, Saratoga and Rensselaer counties.

Weekly, biweekly and monthly plans compared

A recurring plan is just a standard house clean on a calendar. The difference between the three schedules is how much time passes between visits, which decides how much buildup each visit has to fight.

Weekly

Weekly is for houses that work hard. Think two dogs and a cat, a toddler and a baby, two parents commuting on the Northway, or someone working from home who is in the kitchen all day. At this frequency, the bathrooms and floors never reach the point where you notice them. Visits also tend to be shorter because there's less to undo each time.

Biweekly

Every two weeks is where most households end up, and for good reason. It's often enough that the shower never grows a ring and the floors never feel gritty underfoot, but far enough apart that the cost stays reasonable. You handle dishes, counters and the odd spill. We handle everything else.

Monthly

Monthly suits a single person or a couple in an apartment or a smaller house, people who travel a lot, and anyone who keeps up with daily tidying but hates scrubbing tubs. Expect each monthly visit to take longer than a biweekly one, since four weeks of dust and soap scum need more work than two.

How to pick a schedule

Pick weekly if you have pets that shed, kids under five, or more than four people in the house. Pick biweekly if your home is moderately busy and you're willing to do quick daily pickups. Pick monthly if you live alone or as a couple, keep things tidy, and mostly want the deep scrubbing handled.

Still torn? Start biweekly. It's easy to tighten to weekly or stretch to monthly after a couple of visits once you see how fast your house gets dirty. Our weekly vs. biweekly cleaning guide goes deeper on the tradeoffs.

Seasons matter here too. Salt, sand and slush come in on every boot from November through March, so plenty of Capital Region households go every two weeks in winter and monthly in summer. Summer has its own crunch for families hosting guests during Saratoga race season or running between the lake and home every weekend. You can change frequency when your life changes.

Why the first visit is a deep clean

A recurring visit is sized to maintain a clean house, not restore a dirty one. If the first visit is a standard clean on a home that hasn't been professionally cleaned in months, it runs out of time. The stovetop takes an hour, the shower takes another, and the bedrooms don't get touched.

So we start with a deep clean that gets baseboards, vents, grout, fixtures and built-up grease. That sets the baseline. From then on, each recurring visit only has to deal with the dust and grime since the last one, which is why visits can cover the whole house reliably. If your home was professionally cleaned in the last few weeks, tell us, and you may be able to skip straight to regular visits.

What each recurring visit includes

Every visit covers the core of a standard house cleaning: kitchen counters and appliance exteriors, stovetop, sink, bathrooms top to bottom, dusting of reachable surfaces, beds made, floors vacuumed and mopped, and trash emptied.

Recurring clients also get the benefit of rotation. Jobs that don't need doing every visit can be spread across the schedule so they get done without adding much time to any one visit. A typical rotation looks like this:

  • Baseboards in a different set of rooms each visit
  • Inside the microwave every visit, inside the fridge once a month
  • Ceiling fans and vent covers every other visit
  • Blinds and window sills on a monthly cycle

Leave a standing note with your preferences, like which products to use on the stone counters, which room to skip, and how the dog feels about the vacuum. It stays on file so every visit follows it.

Skipping, pausing and changing your plan

Life doesn't run on a fixed schedule, so your cleaning plan shouldn't either. If you're going to be away for a week, skip that visit. If the kids are at summer camp or you head south for part of the winter, pause the plan and pick it back up when you're home. Tell us as early as you can so the time slot can be adjusted. Holidays work the same way: if a visit lands on Thanksgiving or the week between Christmas and New Year's, ask about moving it to a nearby day instead of losing it.

You can also change frequency. Plenty of clients start weekly after a new baby and drop to biweekly a few months later, or move from monthly to biweekly when a new dog joins the family.

The one thing to avoid is a long gap followed by a regular visit. If you've paused for two or three months, the house has drifted back toward needing a deep clean, and a standard visit won't catch up in the time booked. In that case, ask for a longer restart visit or a deep clean to reset the baseline, then go back to your usual schedule.

We run recurring plans across the region, from Clifton Park to Niskayuna and every town in between. Tell us your home size, how many people and pets live there, and the schedule you're leaning toward, and we'll put together a quote.

Common questions

Is biweekly cleaning enough?

For most households, yes. Every two weeks keeps bathrooms and floors from getting out of hand, as long as you handle dishes and quick wipe-downs in between. Homes with several pets or young kids often find weekly is the better fit.

Can I skip a cleaning or pause my plan?

Yes. Tell us as early as you can and we'll skip the visit or pause the plan while you're away. When you're back, we pick the schedule up again.

Why do I need a deep clean before recurring service starts?

Recurring visits are sized to maintain a clean home, not restore one. A deep clean first removes the buildup so every regular visit after it can cover the whole house in the time booked.

Should I clean before the cleaner comes?

No, but pick up clutter so the cleaner can reach surfaces. Clearing counters, floors and beds the night before means more of the visit goes to actual cleaning.

How much does recurring house cleaning cost?

It depends on home size, condition, how often you book and any add-ons. More frequent visits usually take less time each because there's less buildup. Request a free quote to get a number for your home.
