Three different Guilderlands

Guilderland covers a lot of ground, and the housing changes as you drive west on Western Avenue.

McKownville and the university edge. Right next to UAlbany's uptown campus, McKownville has older, modest houses on small lots, a good share of them rented to students or university staff.

Westmere and the Crossgates side. Around Crossgates Mall and along Route 20, you'll find established postwar neighborhoods, townhouse communities and apartment complexes, with a lot of people commuting into Albany or working nearby.

Guilderland Center and Altamont. Out toward the Helderbergs, lots get bigger, houses get newer or much older (farmhouses and village homes in Altamont), and driveways get longer. Altamont is also home to the fairgrounds, and the escarpment looms over the whole western end of town.

A cleaning plan that fits a two-bedroom McKownville rental won't fit a four-bedroom house in Guilderland Center, so we ask about your home before quoting.

Near the university

McKownville rentals follow the academic calendar. Students move out in May, new leases start in August, and landlords need units cleaned in between. If you're the tenant, a thorough move-out cleaning is the best case you can make for getting your deposit back. If you're the landlord, the same clean gets the unit ready for photos and showings.

Faculty and staff living close to campus are a different story. Many of them book regular visits because a short commute doesn't make the semester any less busy.

Parents buying a house near campus for a student, then selling it a few years later, are a third group. Those houses go through a lot in four years. A thorough clean before listing, inside cabinets, appliances and closets included, makes a real difference in how the place shows.

What sand, mud and Route 20 bring inside

Parts of Guilderland border the Albany Pine Bush, and the sandy soil out there finds its way into entryways and the tracks of sliding doors. Farther west, spring mud does the same job. And every winter, salt from Western Avenue and the side roads comes home on tires and boots and dries white on hardwood and tile.

Entryways, mudrooms and the floor just inside the garage door take most of this, so that's where a good clean starts. Sliding-door tracks and the bottoms of storm doors are easy to miss, and we don't. Neither are the window sills on the side of the house that faces the road, which collect a gray film of road dust between spring and fall.

How often Guilderland households book

Guilderland households usually settle into one of three patterns. Biweekly visits are the most common for busy households and keep kitchens, bathrooms and floors in steady shape. Weekly suits homes with young kids or a couple of shedding dogs. Monthly works for smaller homes or people who keep up between visits.

Out toward Altamont and Guilderland Center, bigger houses and bigger lots change the math a little. There's more floor, more bathrooms, and usually more mud and dog hair, so visits run longer. Some households there go biweekly most of the year and weekly from the spring thaw until the yard dries out.

Whichever you choose, recurring house cleaning works best after a solid first clean. If the house is behind, start with a deep clean and let the regular schedule maintain it.

It helps to mention which part of town you're in, how many bathrooms you have, and whether there's a finished basement or a lot of stairs. Those details change the time estimate more than square footage does. Then send them through the free house cleaning quote form or call (518) 464-8817. We also clean next door in Voorheesville and over in Albany.

Common questions

Do you come out to Altamont and Guilderland Center?

Yes. We clean throughout the Town of Guilderland, including McKownville, Westmere, Guilderland Center and the Village of Altamont. Mention where you are when you request a quote.

How much does house cleaning cost in Guilderland?

Your price depends on the home's size and layout, how many bathrooms, its condition, pets, and how often you want a visit. A small McKownville rental and a large house out toward Altamont will price very differently. The free quote form gets you a real number.

Do you clean student rentals near UAlbany?

Yes, for students, parents and landlords. Most of those calls come around move-out in May and lease turnover in August, so book ahead for those weeks.

What's the difference between a standard clean and a deep clean?

A standard clean keeps a home in good shape: kitchens, bathrooms, dusting and floors. A deep clean adds the detail work, like baseboards, door frames, inside the oven and fridge, and built-up grime in showers, so it takes considerably longer.
