Two kinds of house on this side of the river
Glenville and Scotia sit right across the Mohawk from Schenectady, a quick trip over the Western Gateway Bridge, but the housing changes as soon as you leave the village.
In Scotia, houses are older and closer together. Lots of front porches, wood floors, smaller kitchens, and narrow stairs up to the bedrooms. People walk to Collins Park, to the shops on Mohawk Avenue, and down to the river. Cleaning these houses is mostly detail work: trim, stair spindles, older bathrooms with tile grout that needs real scrubbing.
Head out Route 50 or into the neighborhoods around it and Glenville turns suburban. The houses are bigger, with attached garages, family rooms, finished basements and more bathrooms per household. Farther out, the town gets more rural, with bigger lots and longer driveways. Those homes need a cleaner who plans for square footage and for the dirt that gets tracked in from the yard.
Which kind of house you have changes the visit. A Scotia house usually takes longer per room than its size suggests, because of the trim and the stairs. A Glenville colonial with three and a half baths takes longer because of the bathrooms. Tell us which one you've got and we'll plan the visit around it.
What a first visit looks like
On a first visit, we clean the whole house to a level that regular visits can then keep up: kitchen surfaces and appliance fronts, bathrooms top to bottom, dusting on every reachable surface, baseboards, and floors vacuumed and mopped throughout. Expect a first visit to take longer than later ones, since we're catching up on buildup, not maintaining.
If the house is due for a full reset, book a proper deep clean first, which adds things like inside the oven, door frames, light fixtures and window sills. After that, most Glenville and Scotia households move to recurring house cleaning every week or two.
Summers by the water
From the summer concerts at Freedom Park on the Scotia riverfront to afternoons at Collins Lake, people around here spend a lot of time outside in the warm months. That's great for the people. It's hard on the floors. Sand, grass clippings and wet dog all come in through the back door.
Summer is also when people host, whether it's family in town for the weekend or a graduation party in the backyard. A one-time clean the day before means the bathroom guests use and the kitchen everyone stands around are both ready, and you can spend the morning on food instead of floors.
Fall swings the other way. Once the leaves start coming down in Glenville's wooded neighborhoods, the front hall needs more attention than the rest of the house combined. Recurring clients often ask us to shift extra time to entries and floors from October through the first snow, and that's an easy change to make.
Moving in or out of town
Houses in Glenville and apartments in Scotia change hands every season. If you're leaving a rental, a move-out clean covers what landlords check before returning a deposit: inside the fridge, oven and cabinets, bathrooms, baseboards and every floor. If you're moving in, the same clean on an empty house is the easiest one you'll ever book, because nothing is in the way.
