Old houses near Broadway need more than a quick wipe
A lot of Saratoga's best houses are also its hardest to clean. The Victorians on the East Side and along North Broadway have tall ceilings, deep window casings, pocket doors, carved banisters, built-in cabinets and radiators, and every one of those surfaces is a dust shelf. Old hardwood floors have gaps that hold grit. Transoms and high trim collect cobwebs nobody can reach without a ladder.
None of that gets handled by a fast run with a vacuum. On an older house we work top to bottom, hand-dust the trim and spindles, get the tops of door frames and window casings, and vacuum radiators and the floor along them. If a house has been split into apartments, which plenty of them have, we'll clean one unit or the whole building.
One honest note: we clean, we don't restore. If a finish is already flaking or a fixture is loose, we'll leave it and tell you about it rather than make it worse.
East Side, West Side and out toward the lake
Saratoga isn't one kind of house, and the cleaning shifts with the neighborhood:
- East Side: big older homes near Union Avenue and the track, often with three floors and a lot of woodwork.
- West Side: smaller, older houses packed closer together, plus newer condos and townhomes near downtown.
- Downtown: apartments and condos within walking distance of Broadway and Congress Park, where winter means salt and slush on every entry mat.
- Saratoga Lake and the outer edges: lake houses and newer subdivisions with bigger kitchens, more bathrooms and more glass.
A three-floor East Side house with original trim takes longer than a newer house with the same number of bedrooms, and we'll account for that when we quote. That's also why we'd rather hear about your house than guess from a square footage number.
Race season runs the calendar here
When should you book cleaning for Saratoga race season? Book before the meet opens. The track season runs from roughly mid-July to Labor Day, and owners who rent out their houses for it need a deep clean before the first guests, quick turnovers between stays, and a full reset in September. Starting early gives you the widest choice of dates.
The meet is the big one, but it isn't the only busy stretch. Summer concert nights at SPAC bring weekend guests, and plenty of locals host family for a week in August. If you list your place on Airbnb or rent it by the season, our Airbnb and vacation rental cleaning page covers how turnovers work: linens, restocking basics, checking for damage, and photos for your records if you want them.
If you live here year round and just want your own house back after a month of houseguests, a September deep cleaning is the move. It gets the baseboards, the inside of the microwave and the corners that a summer of traffic covered over.
Rentals, Skidmore leases and moving days
Saratoga has a steady rental market: apartments carved out of old houses, condos near downtown, and places rented to Skidmore students and staff. When a lease ends, the tenant wants their deposit and the landlord wants the unit ready to show. A move-out cleaning covers the inside of cabinets, appliances, bathrooms scrubbed down to the grout and floors done edge to edge.
Spring is the crunch for anything tied to the college calendar, so if you're a landlord with several units turning over in May, call early and we'll line them up.
Regular cleaning for year-round Saratogians
Plenty of Saratoga households never think about the track at all. They'd rather spend Saturday walking Congress Park or out on the lake than scrubbing a shower. Our standard house cleaning services cover kitchens, bathrooms, dusting, floors and the general reset that keeps a house feeling under control. Most people pick weekly or every other week, and we usually suggest starting with one deeper first visit so the regular cleans have a clean baseline to maintain.
Winters here are hard on floors. Salt and sand come in on every boot, and older wood floors near the door show it first. Spring brings pollen on every sill. A regular schedule handles both before they build up.
We also work in the towns around the city. If you're north of downtown, see our house cleaning in Wilton page, and if you're south toward the lake's far end or the tech campus, see house cleaning in Malta. Ready to see what your house would take? Get a free quote or call (518) 464-8817.
